About 2 years ago, I weighted 160lbs heavier than I am now. I lost a lot of it, due to training in jiu jitsu, a style called aikijiujitsu. In the process, I have gained a love for the "Art" of martial arts. Both the beauty of "Aiki" and the elegance of jiu jitsu.
Recently, My friend and I decided we want to learn more about BJJ. Lucky for me , Alliance BJJ is 6 miles from my home. I signed up. And this is a journal of the learning experience.
Day One, First class. I was really nervous. I had no real idea what to expect or what would it be like. I am from a very traditional japanesse school but , I quickly learned its very relax, laid back , and respectful here. The first drill, I done many times before something similar but not from that position. It was good to see a new perspective. Second drill, I need a lot of help on. The partner I started out with, guided me through it, and got my past my bad habits. Through out the class, I recieved constant instruction on the proper way of doing techniques.
If you've moved over from aikido, then you might enjoy Roy Dean's DVD specifically designed for aikidoka taking up BJJ. He's an aikido, JJJ, judo and BJJ black belt, so has a fairly unique perspective: the DVD is called Art of the Wristlock (I've got a long review up here).
